The Blurb on Other People’s Words – Summer Daniels

February 14, 2012 at 2:06 am (Reviews, writing) (, )

I’ve unfairly delayed this review, hoping to actually set up a separate review site for erotica, but I’ve had to concede that I just don’t have the time to maintain two sets of websites, blogs, etc. So here is the review that I’ve been putting off since December.

Summer’s Journey: Volume One – Losing Control by Summer Daniels

The first in a romance/ erotica series, this digital short presents us with Summer, a newly divorced middle-aged woman seeking fresh adventures. To find this, she begins to explore her restored sexual freedom by treading upon new ground and experimenting in ways she hadn’t really considered in the past.

Summer laments the bedroom boredom of her failed marriage as well as the lingering resentment that had existed between her and her ex due to their unsuccessful attempts to have children. She finds Mark online, another divorcé, and agrees to meet with him in person. He makes an unusual proposal and when she concedes to it, we get to enjoy the teasing beginning of their curious relationship.

This is a tantalizing intro to the series, not to mention exceptionally well written for erotica. The narrative was clever and insightful, very tongue-in-cheek. The protagonist has decided to make bold changes to her life, and she openly admits that her new approach at times is crude and desperate. I think that’s why I enjoyed this so much. There was no flowery language, pseudo-spirituality or vulgarity without plot. It was gritty, original, funny and hot.

After what I have read in erotica, this was nothing like what I was expecting. It left me very intrigued to see where the series would go from here. If this is your type reading material, this Journey is definitely one I would recommend.
